Enforcement of the Parking Ordinance
We are going to start enforcing the Town Ordinance Sec. 78-168 – Right and left parallel parking; angle parking which states “A vehicle stopped or parked upon a roadway shall be so stopped or parked with the righthand wheels of such vehicle parallel to and within 18 inches of the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.
As the number of cars has increased, so has the need grown as more cars are parking facing the incorrect direction. Be sure to park your cars on the side of the road with the flow of traffic. When parked against the flow of traffic, you pull into the spot by crossing to the wrong side of the road to park. When you pull out of the spot you are again crossing to the wrong side of the road, which puts yourself and others in a harmful situation. By parking against the flow of traffic, the car is also parked to leave room for the resident to get out of the car which in turn has made the car be much further into the roadway which can cause an accident.
Starting October 1st, we will be placing notices on cars out of compliance as warnings to get motorists used to the ordinance that has been in place. On October 15th, any vehicle found out of compliance will be ticketed.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Bath Town Hall at 304-258-1102 or the Berkeley Springs Police Department at 304-258-1198.
